Job Opportunity for Minors+Majors
Students interested in P&J Studies are encouraged to apply for the funding described below. This undergraduate research opportunity is organized by the College of Arts and Letters and includes funding for the undergraduate researcher who will assist Professor Peterson in developing a web archive of materials for the core course in Peace and Justice Studies and for other course needs in the specialization. See the description below and, if interested, apply by Sept. 15, 2009.
Project Description: we will develop a web archive of course materials for the interdisciplinary core course in Peace and Justice Studies. The undergraduate researcher will assist in locating, assessing, and archiving texts, images, videos and other materials that may then be available to faculty and students working in basic courses in the Peace and Justice Studies curriculum. The researcher must be ready to do library research as well as to explore resources for music, film, photography, and video, and must be prepared to assist in making these digitally available for future students and teachers. She or he should be ready to think about ways of organizing and efficiently accessing such materials, to discuss how such materials might function for students in Peace and Justice Studies classes, and to think about the role of such materials in the larger aims and organization of the Specialization itself. Background in the Specialization is valuable but not required. Experience and training in web technology is desirable, but a willingness to learn is also valuable.
To apply, please write a letter stating your interest, your qualifications, and your academic background. Preference will be given to students from Arts and Letters, but others may also apply. Send your applications to Professor Peterson, at petrsnrt@msu.edu.
